Telecommunications &
Television 101

To understand Bikini TV™ potential, below is a "crash course" on the coming transformation of the telecommunications and television industries.

First, for the most part, everyone in the USA is wired-up redundantly, 4 different ways. They are:

  1. Broadcast Television--

In the past, networks like CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, PBS and local independents were the only option. Today satellites offer more broadcast channels than ever (e.g., Direct TV -- 175 channels -- a joint venture of GM, Hughes Electronics Corp., & AT&T. Also, American Sky Broadcasting, a joint venture of News Corp. & MCI).

Television satellites have the ability to provide television, local telephone service, long distance telephone service, video conferencing, online services, etc., but now only transmit satellite television.

  2. Telephone--

Both long distance companies and baby bells have the ability to provide television, local telephone service, long distance telephone service, video conferencing, online services, etc., but now only transmit long distance calls or local calls respectively.

  3. Cable Television--

Cable television companies like Cox, Jones and TCI etc., have the ability to provide television, local telephone service, long distance telephone service, video conferencing, online services, etc., but now only transmit cable television.

  4. Electric Utility Companies -- (Pandora's Box)

Electric Utility companies like Commonwealth Edison, Arizona Public Service, etc., have the ability to provide television, local telephone service, long distance telephone service, video conferencing, online services, etc., but now only transmit electric power. Fact: Homes have more electric outlets than cable TV outlets or telephone outlets.

The Outcome of the Deregulation -- Transformation

The result of deregulation will be myriad choices for television/ telecommunication services and providers. Just think about how many options you now have regarding a soft-drink purchase.

Television's Goal -- Watch Commercials

Free Image! The purpose of television is to capture viewer attention long enough to watch TV commercials. Deregulated telecommunications/ television industries with hundreds of channels, and programs, will result in increased viewer "channel surfing." Advertisers will no longer justify spending millions of dollars for "Rosanne" or "Melrose Place" in order to get viewers to watch a few commercials.

The Internet and Satellites -- Open Transmission

Remember, a computer modem translates digital signal from a PC into analog signal. Analog signal is transmitted via telephone line, then the modem on the other end translates analog signal back into digital signal. This is how CLOSED transmission of computer communications currently operate using the telephone line.

OPEN transmission is an outcome of both satellite and Internet technologies that most experts did not anticipate, or are unwilling to publicly talk about. Specifically, the 18" inch satellite dish is soon to come with a telephone outlet. Satellite transmissions are digital, and eliminate the need for a computer modem. Consumers will be able to transmit and receive at satellite speed, digitally. This is an OPEN transmission to anyone with the proper frequency (channel), and "x" and "y" coordinates (where to point the dish antenna) to aim at the satellite.

On the Internet, and even more so with a completely deregulated telecommunications and television environment, any computer workstation with correct hardware, software, and programming may become a broadcast network.
